Extracurricular
MCEMS offers a variety of opportunities beyond the classroom experience!
The FLL Robotics program provides an opportunity for students to learn about programming. Students build a Lego EV3 robot and develop programs to move the robot through a series of challenges. The group competes in a qualifying tournament with other local teams in early December. A big part of the program is a focus on FLL's Core Values, a set of skills that helps students to work as a team, to support and encourage each other, to work collaboratively, and to have fun as they learn.
Stacked Deck
In 2015, the Youth Problem Gambling Awareness and Prevention Program was implemented at Martins Creek School. The curriculum is referred to as Stacked Deck. The purpose of the program is to increase knowledge, outreach, prevention and awareness of problem gambling. All 8th-grade students participate in the program and create posters highlighting the facts and fallacies associated with gambling. For more information about the program or assistance with problem gambling, you can contact the North Carolina Problem Gambling Helpline or visit the website morethanagamenc.com. To see more posters from students throughout the area and for the latest information visit NC Middle & High School Prevention Program (Stacked Deck) Facebook page.
